Le geste suspendu. Kabuki prints from the collection of the Cabinet d’arts graphiques

Several specialized courses and excursions were organized by the department of East Asian art history as part of the collaboration project with the Cabinet d’Arts Graphiques at the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire de Genève. Since 2009 the museum has planned to survey and catalogue the 1300 Japanese woodblock prints in their collection in order to present a number of them in an exhibition dedicated to the kabuki theatre of the pre-modern Japan. Students helped in preparing descriptions of the objects, translating inscriptions and entering the information in the online database. Through their participation in the project they gained direct experience in exhibition planning and preparation. The museum also offered 3 individual internships for some of the students. An exhibition “Le geste suspendu/The frozen gesture” was opened in the fall of 2014.
