Guest lecture: Rebuilding Buddhism in China

May 6, 2013 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Buddhist art and architecture constitute an important part of the Chinese artistic heritage and are regaining importance in current practice in China. Studies of Buddhism, both historical and modern, provide an interdisciplinary link between art historians, historians and specialists in the field of religious studies.

Venerable Dr. Yifa, a Taiwanese Buddhist nun associated with the Fo Guangshan order, is a scholar, translator and a writer on a variety of topics connected to Chinese Buddhism. She received her PhD degree in Religious Studies from Yale University and has taught at universities in the USA, Canada, and Taiwan. Among her books is „The Origins of Buddhist Monastic Codes in China,“ and she has collaborated on translating several important sutras into English.
