The Musée Ariana, also known as the Musée Suisse de la céramique et du verre (Swiss Museum of ceramics and Glass) is a leading institution of its kind in Switzerland. Its collections of ceramics and glass are estimated to be up to 20, 000 pieces, among them around 700 from Japan.
The department of East Asian Art History together with the National Museum of Japanese History cooperates with the Ariana Museum in order to create a complete survey of its East Asian objects. An exhibition is planned in 2018-2019, together with a comprehensive published catalogue of the objects. A number of joint workshops lead by renowned experts from Japan and Switzerland will involve students of the department and allow them experience practical work with museum objects.
